I really enjoyed the New Year's Eve Celebration in our lovely warm church building - it was a fantastic night out with around 100 people - mostly church family but with a few visitors. The doors opened at 10.00pm and we were welcomed with tea, coffee and mince pies (enough already)!
By 10.30 the praise and worship was in full swing - complete with dancing, (theatrical) smoke and colourful disco lights. The first part of the evening was hosted by Andy Robertson, who made everybody feel most welcome. I really liked the audio-visual of the Greenford Baptist Church History in 2006. The last part of the evening's praise and worship was hosted by Timi Awoniyi and several other of our Family took part at various times.
For me it was a time of Family coming together and letting our collective hair down in the presence of God. It was informal - a mixture of being in a party, a worship celebration and a church service, with people who love Jesus - which I found a pretty unique combination!
There was a moving testimony about how Jesus changed one lady's life remarkably in the last few months - Praise God! There was time for prayer and Pastor David Wise spoke for a while on Psalm 84 about being in God's will for 2007 and about how lovely it was to be in the dwelling place of God - something that we all wanted to be.
There was more lively praise than you could shake a stick at, until we all want home to bed at 12.30am the next year - 2007!
The whole evening was so good that I wish we could have similar celebration meetings every moth. Does anybody agree? Amen?
