Each Christmas day since about 1989 the Greenford Baptist Church family has put on a special Christmas Lunch for older people in the community who would otherwise have been on their own on Christmas Day. It is so popular that some people actually book their free places as early as September, to make sure they get included...having said that, no local resident has ever been turned away!

Many local businesses and shop keepers partner with us and donate food and finance as part of their community and social responsibility involvements. The day's party action starts when we take the Ealing Community Transport minibuses out and collect those who can't get to the church building by themselves. The minibuses are adapted with tail lifts for wheelchair users and those that are unable to use the bus steps. The Church building is always left beautifully decorated from the carol service a few days before so our guests can enjoy the party atmosphere. In common with most public buildings today our Church building has disabled parking bays, wheelchair accessible toilets, a hearing loop system and baby changing facilities. At mid day a traditional Christmas Lunch is quickly served up by members of the Church family and everybody tucks in to a long awaited Christmas feast. After lunch the entertainment begins. Sometimes children from next door's Ravenor School sing Christmas songs to our guests. There are musical performances, games, community carol singing and drama presentations. At the end of the afternoon everybody is given a party bag of fruit and other goodies to take home with them. The minibuses then roll out to take our tired but happy Christmas party goers home. After everything has been said and done - and cleared away - we reflect on how rewarding it is to serve those around us and bring pleasure at a time when many are lonely and grieving the loss of friends and loved ones this Christmas.
